VVA Chapter 1069 Meeting Report for: March 3-14-2018

The meeting was held at Mikeska’s BBQ, El Campo, TX.
-
The following Board members were present: Sternadel, Steelman, F. Kulcak, Supak, Woods and Mahlmann.

There were 39 members and 7 guests present.

President Leonard Sternadel declared the meeting open at 1900 hours and the following business was transacted.
-
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and a prayer was said.
-
Sternadel recognized Jose Perez as a new member. WELCOME HOME!
-
The meeting was then recessed for the meal and reconvened at 1945.
-
Sternadel then introduced Bret Macha of Congressman Blake Farenthold’s office.
He informed the members that a project was in the works for a veteran’s service center in the Victoria area.
Future support will be needed.

Chapter member and chapter Service Officer, Dwight Winkler, gave his monthly Veterans Benefits presentation.
Dwight is also currently the interim Service Officer for Wharton County.
His handout contained the contact information for various persons involved with veteran’s benefits, along with several other
veteran related topics - see list below. Everyone received a handout.

Dwight also congratulated Sternadel for his DARS district and state level award for
"Texas Outstanding Veteran Volunteer". See images below.
CONGRATULATIONS TO LEONARD FOR HIS DARS AWARDS! Dwight also thanked Dana for all her hard work in the chapter.

Sternadel then directed the members’ attention to a memoriam picture frame that contained the member’s that have passed away.

Everyday Heroes Cook Off is this upcoming weekend, March 16 & 17.

March 29th is now National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

TSC meeting in El Paso, April 6 and 7.

VVA 40th Anniversary commemorative coins are available. Note that the chapter will be purchasing
a bunch of these coins and should have them available in our PX store at the May chapter meeting.

April 24th is Veteran’s Day at Warton County Youth Fair.
-
The cities of Irving, Flower Mound, Addison and Coppell have been designated as Purple Heart cities.
-
The woman whose voice was Hanoi Hannah has passed away.
-
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
