The meeting was held at Mikeska’s BBQ, El Campo, TX. First off - A big thanks to Dana Sternadel,
Carolyn Milder and other member spouses who baked & brought sweet deserts to our "Valentines Day"
chapter meeting!
- The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM, by chapter President, Leonard Sternadel.
- The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and a prayer was said.
- Leonard then recognized all those who were having birthdays in February.
- Leonard than introduced guests and potential new members.
- The meeting was then recessed for the meal.
- President, Leonard Sternadel, re-opened the meeting open at 8:00 PM, and the following business was transacted. Note that we had an attendance of 40+ people, including members & spouses. Thanks to all those who attended!

Special guests, James Bailey (Veterans Counseling) and Nick Parker (Veteran Outreach Specialist),
gave presentations on PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) as it still applies to Vietnam Veterans.

James and Nick work at the Houston Vet Center (Readjustment Counseling Services for Veterans). They work with all Veterans, including Vietnam Veterans, who may be dealing with PTSD, mental health, depression & anxiety. James has spoken before at our November, 2016, chapter meeting. James and Nick also left some "Vet Center" handout pamplets at the meeting that include information on the various services provided by the Vet Center, descriptions of PTSD symptoms, and locations and hours of operation for all the Vet Centers in the Houston area. Mike Harbaugh (see photo below), Chapter member and Wharton County Veteran Service Officer,
gave his Veterans Benefits presenation.
The topics for his presentation are listed below...
- How different VA health care priority groups affect Copayments (Copays)
- VA releases plan to implement new community care program
- New chapter officers and BOD members will be elected in April. Michael Harbaugh, chairman of the Nomination Committee gave a progress report.
- Leonard then mentioned that the chapter will go ahead with the Fundraiser Raffle project in 2019. If anyone would like to volunteer to help with this fundraiser, please contact Leonard. We for sure will need members to go into their communities and find businesses that will contribute worthwhile prizes for the Raffle.
- A Travelling Vietnam Wall will be coming to the Schulenburg Sports Complex, April 4-7, 2019. Mark Meysembourg (979-561-6986) from the Schulenburg American Legion Post 143, will be leading a motorcycle escort from San Antonio to Schulenburg. If you are a motorcycle rider and would be interested in riding in the escort, please call Mark. More information will be presented at next chapter meeting.
- The dedication of Hwy 71, in El Campo, for local Medal of Honor recipient, Roy Benavidez, is being held on Saturday, March 23, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. More information will be presented at our March 13 chapter meeting. Click Here for more information about Roy Benavidez
