VVA Chapter 1069 held it's annual "Great Kayak Races" this past Saturday (9-14-2014) at "The Pond". Although the weather was a bit questionable, approximately 25 chapter members attended the fun event. And although the weather did put a bit of a damper on the actual kayaking activities on the pond, there were still some chapter members who were brave enough to paddle on the pond and provide quite a bit of entertainment for all those attending. See photos below. A hotdog meal was provided later in the evening. The real purpose of the event was to simply provide an afternoon venue for the chapter members and their spouses to gather, relax and enjoy each other's company. A big thanks goes out to Leonard & Dana for allowing us to invade their space. Everyone had a very enjoyable afternoon in the country.
"And they're off!" Above photo shows Leonard & Frankie "warmning up" for the great race.
No racing yet - they're still warming up in above photo...
Yep, they're still warming up...
Still warming up...
Ok, Leonard got too warm - he had to take a dip to cool off. Ha - actually Leonard's attempt to dump Frankie back-fired. He's in the water, Frankie is still dry.
Now it's time for revenge - hang on Frankie!
Oops, too late - there goes Frankie! Someone get him some dry clothes!
Yikes, watch out for the catfish!
Ok, ok, so the truth is, not much "kayak racing" actually took place - instead, just a lot of good old horseing around. Nothing wrong with that. Much thanks goes out to Leonard & Frankie for entertaining the rest of us who decided to stay on dry land.
Bob brought the chapter's Bio & Photo Album Booklet project to the event to allow a sneak preview by those who attended. The above photo shows some of the members viewing and discussing the contents of the Album. The project Album does currently contain the Bio & Photo pages for 5 chapter members. We will formally start inducting members into the Album at the next chapter meeting with a simple brief "Welcome Home" presentation for each member, whose Bio & Photo pages are complete.
Above photo shows everyone gathered in the garage and having a good time. The cool front had come in and the temperature was in the 70s - Ahhhhh.
Above photo shows everyone sitting down for the evening meal. By this time, perhaps a dozen or so members & spouses had to leave to attend other family events, including some chapter members from Louise that left to attend their 45th high school reunion.
Above photo says it all - a group of Vietnam Veterans having a good time and enjoying each other's company - enough said. "Welcome Home!"
