Saturday, November 12th, 2016, was a good day for VVA Chapter 1069 members and their families as they enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of commaraderie, fishing and good food in the country. The event, "Vietnam Veterans Family Day" was sponsored by Mike Ryan, a local VVA Chapter and all Veterans supporter. A big Thank-You goes out to Mike from VVA Chapter 1069!
Around 60 folks attended the event, which included Chapter members and family. The weather throughout the day could not have been any better. There was even one of those inflatable "Jump Houses" setup for the kids.
It was a great opportunity to learn a bit more about each other's military time and to find out if you and someone else were maybe near each other during your tours in Vietnam. Or to simply relax and talk about fishing, hunting, and to ask the big question; "Did you get your deer yet?"
The meal arrived around 4:00 PM.
Mike had the Lone Star Cafe cater the meal. The meal was wonderful. The Lone Star Cafe is located in New Taiton and is apparently a favorite eatery of many Wharton County residents and are known especially for their home cooked meals. Lone Star Cafe on FacebookFor our meal, there was grilled pork chops, green beans, mashed potatoes and homemade rolls. Yum, yum! And to round out the meal, there were plenty of deserts brought by those who attended.
And of course several folks tried their hand at fishing in Mike's lake. There were some small bass caught by several fishermen, but Rusty's family was the BIG-FISH winners. You can see Terry in the above photo sitting on the wooden dock. She caught several HUGE Talapia fishing right off the end of the dock using live "Walmart" worms. Way to go Terry!
Above photo - 2 happy guys. On the left, Dwight Winkler, our chapter's Service Officer. On the right, Leonard Sternadel, our chapter President. Like I said, it was a good day to relax and enjoy each other's company.
And as you can see in the above photo, even Mike's dog had a fun day.
