VVA Chapter 1069 - El Campo, Texas 2020 Vietnam Veterans Family Day Outing

Texas VVA Chapter 1069 held its 9th annual Veterans Family Day outing. Many members, spouses and family members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, VVA Chapter 1069, of El Campo, Texas, attended a Vietnam Veterans Family Day outing at Ryan Lake, on Saturday, November 14, 2020. The outing was hosted by Mike Ryan (far right in photo), supporter of all Veterans organizations and Veterans in the Wharton County area and a great friend of VVA Chapter 1069. Thanks Mike, for a great outing and wonderful chicken noodle soup cooked on site, along with chicken salad sandwiches!

It turned out to be a great weather day for holding the event. Everyone enjoyed seeing each other and just having great conversation. Many members (and spouses) brought various snacks and deserts.

And again, Mike went all out by setting up a large tent as a place for holding the evening meal, and a kids bounce house. Thanks Mike!

Photo above - What a great day it was to do some fishing, for the kids, AND for the adults too! Quite a few fish were caught during the day.

HA! Here's one of those adults I was referring to. Chapter member Mark Pilcik snags a nice bluegill. Way to go Mark!

Somewhere around 40+ members, spouses, kids and grandkids attended the outing.

The water in the lake that day was crystal clear. Just a beautiful place for an outing.

Photo above - Scott S. brought their paddle boat to the outing. Looks like someone is giving it a test run on the lake.

Photo above - And speaking of fishing, one of the member's grandkid caught a HUGE bluegill!

Photo above - And then a short time later, he caught an even larger Tilapia! Yes, it was a great day for the fishermen, both boys & girls!

Photo above - The chapter wants to send a big thank-you to the chief cook for the outing. He made a huge pot of fresh chicken noodle soup for everyone. And as you can tell, the emphasis in his chicken noodle soup recipe was "Noodles", and homemade at that! It was great! Everyone had their fill and most everyone got to take some soup home with them. The chapter would also like to thank the local El Campo organization for providing the chicken salad sandwiches! It was much appreciated by our Vietnam Veterans membership.

These events are such a great opportunity for our membership to relax and visit with each other. As Vietnam veterans, we're not getting any younger, and getting together like this is really an enjoyable event. Be sure to thank Mike when you see him, for hosting an outing like this for our membership and their families.

Well, we finally started gathering everyone for a group picture as the above photo shows. With us old Vietnam veterans, it's kind of like herding a bunch of old cats.

But finally, we did get the whole gang together. What a great looking bunch of Vietnam veterans! Do note the guy to the far right - that's Mike Ryan, our host for the day. A big thanks goes out to Mike (and his lovely wife) for inviting our chapter to their place for a Veterans Family Day outing. It was enjoyed by all.
