VVA Chapter 1069 Meeting Report for: June, 6-10-2020
[posted on:6-19-2020]
-
The meeting was held at Mikeska’s BBQ, (located on Hwy 59) El Campo, TX.
-
There were 16 members and 5 spouses in attendance. This was our first chapter meeting since the Corona virus
pandemic had hit the U.S. in early March, and so we did expect a lower than normal attendance. Our last chapter
meeting was held on March 11, two days before the pandemic hit. However, we were very happy with the 21 total
attendees, and thank all of them for attending.
Mikeska's BBQ was open for business and had prepared their banquet room for social distancing by limiting the room
to fewer tables and fewer chairs. Attendees were asked to wear face masks and honor social distancing, and everyone
complied. Members were also encouraged to stay home if they did not feel comfortable in coming to the meeting
because of the virus situation.
-
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and a prayer was said.
-
President, Frank Laitkep (photo below), then recognized all those members who were having
birthdays in May & June.
-
Frank then introduced guests and potential new members.
-
The meeting was then recessed for the evening meal. A BBQ sandwhich lunchbox was provided for all
those attending, complements of Mike Ryan from Everyday Heroes, a local Veterans support organization.
Chapter officers and BOD members want to thank Mike for supporting our VVA Chapter and its membership
since it was chartered back in 2012.
-
Frank then re-opened the meeting open at 8:00 PM. The following chapter business was transacted.
-
Vice President, Leonard Sternadel, gave a short presentation regarding the upcoming Everyday
Heroes Fundraiser Banquet, that will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in the El Campo Civic Center. The
guest speaker will be "Shilo Harris". (see image below) More information will be forth
coming as to our chapter's participation int the event, and for any special ceremony that our chapter will be
presenting at the event.
Shilo was a Cavalry scout with the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq. He survived a brutal IED attack, and, after
more than 75 surgeries, he is now a motivational speaker. Use the link below to learn more about Shilo Harris.

Members were reminded to be sure and vote on July 14th for the Primary Runoff elections. Early voting starts June 29.
-
Members were also reminded that the May/June issue of "The VVA Veteran" publication that we all received, will be the
last hard copy issue we wil receive from VVA National - At least until further notice. Termination of the publication
is due to the Corona Virus pandemic, which in turn caused a loss of monies to support the publication. From now on,
the publication will be only available online by visiting the VVA National website.
We wil notify all chapter members via email when the next online version of the publication will be available.
